1. About CoastAdapt
CoastAdapt is a resource platform developed by the Climate Risk Institute (CRI) under the Coastal Communities Adaptation Toolkit for Canada project, with funding support from Natural Resources Canada’s Climate Change Adaptation Program (CCAP) and Climate-Resilient Coastal Communities Program (CRCC). CoastAdapt is intended to help users find, filter, and navigate climate adaptation information, tools, and resources relevant to coastal communities across Canada.
By accessing or using CoastAdapt, you agree to these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.
2. Acceptable Use
You agree to use CoastAdapt only for lawful purposes and in a way that does not infringe the rights of, or restrict or inhibit the use and enjoyment of, the platform by anyone else.
You agree not to:
- attempt to gain unauthorized access to the platform, its underlying systems, or related networks;
- use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to extract content at scale without prior written permission;
- interfere with the platform’s operation or security; or
- misrepresent the source or authorship of any content drawn from CoastAdapt.
3. Content and Intellectual Property
CoastAdapt-authored content. Resource summaries, descriptions, tags, and other original content prepared by CRI for CoastAdapt are the property of CRI (or used with permission) and are made available for informational and non-commercial use. You may reference or share this content with appropriate attribution to CoastAdapt and CRI, unless otherwise noted.
Third-party and linked content. CoastAdapt provides summaries of, and links to, resources, tools, and data sets developed by other organizations (e.g., government departments, research institutions, non-profits). CRI does not own this underlying content and does not claim any rights over it. Ownership and copyright of linked material remain with the original authors or publishers, and use of that material is subject to their own terms.
4. External Links and Third-Party Resources
CoastAdapt curates and organizes links to external websites and resources for convenience. CRI:
- does not control, and is not responsible for, the content, accuracy, availability, or privacy practices of external sites;
- does not endorse any organization, product, or resource by including it in the registry, unless explicitly stated; and
- makes reasonable efforts to summarize external resources accurately, but summaries may not reflect updates made to the original source after the summary was written.
Users leaving CoastAdapt to visit an external site do so at their own discretion and should review that site’s own terms and privacy policy.
5. No Professional Advice
Information on CoastAdapt, including resource summaries, tagging, and gap analysis, is provided for general informational purposes to support climate adaptation planning. It is not a substitute for professional engineering, planning, legal, financial, or scientific advice specific to a community’s or organization’s circumstances. Users should consult qualified professionals before making decisions based on information found through CoastAdapt.
6. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability
CoastAdapt is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the extent permitted by law, CRI makes no warranties, express or implied, regarding the completeness, accuracy, reliability, or fitness for a particular purpose of the platform or the resources it references. CRI, its funders, partners, and regional coordinators are not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, information accessed through CoastAdapt, including content on external, linked sites.
7. Availability and Changes to the Platform
CRI may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of CoastAdapt, including its content, features, or availability, at any time and without prior notice, for example, during maintenance or as the platform evolves through its prototype and beta phases.
8. Changes to These Terms
These Terms and Conditions may be updated periodically as CoastAdapt develops (for example, if user accounts or new features are introduced). The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of CoastAdapt after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
9. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Canada and the province in which CRI is located, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
