About the Adaptation Cycle

Coastal adaptation is a journey of understanding current and future change, building resilience, and taking action. The Adaptation Cycle is a tool that can support that journey. It provides a framework for understanding climate risks, identifying and implementing responses, and learning from experience. Adaptation is an ongoing process, so communities can start at the stage that best reflects their needs, move through the cycle at their own pace, and revisit earlier stages as priorities and circumstances evolve.

The Coastal Adaptation Cycle is built for local communities and centers on implementation; turning adaptation plans into action where coastal risks are most immediate and specific.
